Two Georges are Better than One

Posted on June 27, 2026 by Christine Mifsud in Curator's Corner

If you visited Moland House in the past, you may have noticed the chair which was paired with our George II desk in the office wasn’t quite “up to snuff” as the Brits may say. I was delighted when a George II mahogany armchair came up for bid at a local auction. Another George II […]

Posted on April 8, 2026 by Christine Mifsud in Curator's Corner

Children’s Bedroom Additions

Posted on January 25, 2026 by Christine Mifsud in Curator's Corner

Two items have recently been added to the second floor children’s bedroom.  The first, a  12”×21” silk on silk sampler is now hung above the bureau. A Sampler is framed needlework. Young girls,  generally by the age of 7 or 8 would experiment with various hand sewing techniques to demonstrate their education and skills. Our […]

I am a recent transplant to Bucks county, having worked in house museums in Philadelphia. In September, the WTHS Board asked me to serve as Curator at Moland House. I readily accepted. Traditionally, when someone enters a historic house museum they are requested not to touch the furnishings or decorative arts objects. Moland House displays […]

Did You Know? 🃏Take a closer look at the playing cards in the children’s bedroom and you may notice something different — there are no numbers or letters in the corners. On older playing cards, people could tell what card they had by counting the suit symbols, or “pips,” such as the hearts, clubs, spades, or diamonds. Face cards were also recognized by their pictures instead of the J, Q, and K we are used to seeing today. It may seem like a small difference, but details like this show how everyday objects have changed over time.Next time you visit, see if you can spot these cards in the children’s bedroom! 🃏✨ Interested in visiting or volunteering at The Moland House?
