Re: George Washington’s Headquarters at the Moland House
George Washington and 11,000 men camped in Hartsville, in WarwickTownship, and the surrounding areas from August 10-23, 1777. It was here that the Marquis de Lafayette and Count Casimir Pulaski joined the American cause. It is also said that the Betsy Ross Flag flew for the first time at the Moland House. After approximately ten years of restoration by the Warwick Township Historical Society, we have now dedicated this home as a museum and one of our primary purposes is education. We have presented a program for about five years for the children who are studying or interested in the Revolutionary War. The program is as follows:
We have five stations.
Station 1 - An introduction to the history of the Moland House during the Revolutionary War
Station 2 - An explanation of the restoration of the Moland House
Station 3 - An opportunity to play with colonial toys
Station 4 - An insight into colonial living such as, clothing, occupations, class distinction, etc.
Station 5 - An explanation about the artifacts that have been harvested from the Moland House
Property. We usually have three cases filled with artifacts for demonstration purposes.
Some of our interpreters are dressed in colonial clothing. The program lasts about two hours or more. If the buses are on time, we need about 15 minutes to disembark and explain where the stations are, then we can adhere to 20-25 minute time allowances at each station.
For further information or to make reservations, call Jackie at 215-345-6439. There is an admission fee per child..
The Moland House is located at 1641 Old York Road, Hartsville, PA 18974
