“The Techniques & Intrigues of Espionage
during the War of Independence”
featuring award-winning author John A. Nagy
For many people, their awareness of espionage during the War for America is limited to the treachery of Major General Benedict Arnold & Major Andre at West Point, NY, and Patriot Nathan Hale proclaiming that “I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country" before being hanged in New York City. But spying is an ancient craft crucial to successful warfare. It is an integral piece in most treatises on the art of war including those most widely read works on military strategy during the 18th century.
Join us as John Nagy, author of Invisible Ink: Spycraft of the American Revolution [http://www.westholmepublishing.com/invisibleink.html], shines a light on this shadowy side of the American Revolution based on researching primary source documents. Learn about secure communications, subterfuge and battlefield deception. John, an expert in antique documents, is a consultant for the William L. Clements Library of the University of Michigan and scholar-in-residence at Saint Francis University, Loretto, PA. He is president of the American Revolution Round Table of Philadelphia [http://arrtop.com/] and has appeared on the History Channel. John has also written Rebellion in the Ranks and articles on Revolutionary War topics.
